Office Politics
I started a new job a few months ago, along with some other “new recruits” well 9 other colleagues, so far 1 left after 1 week, me and another colleague got put into a specific department and the others got assigned to different departments as well.
During the last few months I have been concentrating on just doing my job the best as I can, and fortunately have got 2 brilliant line managers who have afforded me great opportunities in the little time i have been there.
I’ve been actively taking part in office life and so ended up concentrating on working and getting to know almost all the staff in my own department as well as the staff and managers in the other departments and most importantly our most senior manger knows me as well now as i got the chance to work alongside him.
The problem is this………the other new recruits all go to lunch together, including the colleague from my section, some of the louder ones will sit and just moan about their work and how they hate it, and bitch about certain managers/colleagues and I don’t really wish to hear that, and would rather spend my lunch hour doing something more worthwhile, which in my case being a muslim, is to pray my Namaaz ( daily prayers).
They constantly tease me that i don’t spend time with them, and mockingly suggest that i should “say a prayer” for them too, when they see me go by and the one that constantly says that is supposed to be a devout Christian!
So recently one of the nicer ones, has found a job elsewhere, and they were holding a little get together to say bye to her, and apparently they emailed everyone to say where the farewell do will be held, i only found this out today, after she had left.
Apparently one of my colleagues was like – “oh didnt u get the email?” and i’m like “no?!” and he is like “really well so and so said she will email everyone, maybe she forgot to add you to the list” and im like “oh, ok.” Then he added “well your always too busy hanging out with the posh people, and the managers to bother with us common people.”
Thats when i clocked on, i have to either please them, or just continue what i am doing which may seem selfish and snobbish, which i don’t think i am at all, i am just trying to do what is best for me, and doesnt seem to bother 300 other colleagues nor my managers.

Its just the typical work environment that one experiences in the day to day life…….I would narrate a famous quote by Gen. Powell:”You can’t make someone else’s choices. You shouldn’t let someone else make yours”.

well i have noticed many gals and boys that are close to islam and practice it, often have good relations with people. now these pple obviously drond khoyeee aw khaslat khwaha wee. this attitude required often u find in matured and high ranking pple in jobs and every field.
my class mate in ~UNI~ ( very descent and mo’tabar khoyeee wala jenai de from syria) tend to have good relations with lecturers and so do I.
so this is good thing but u gotta keep balance and be aware of oder pple may think of u.
u r a strong headed gal but again u r afta all a gal. this isn,t big deal .
improve the balance between employees and managers
