I have come across a raw talent ready to bloom amongst our peghlei here in London, a young beautiful in every sense Pashtana, Gulaley Yusufzai.

You can interact with her on facebook at : Gulaley Yusufzai

You can read her poems here, but bear in mind she is British born and bred and yet has come up with such mesmerising poetry that i can only pray she further develops her talent inshAllah.

Online Quran Tutors Tajweed and Tarteel lessons!

Posted in My Blog with tags , , , , , , , on 14 June, 2009 by Pukhtana

I have discovered, although slightly late, that you can learn the quran online with a tutor.

The quality of teaching is very good, and mostly you can get 30 min lessons though you do have to if you don’t speak languages like Urdu bear with the slightly rough English as most of the tutors are from Pakistan, and their explanations on where you pronounce/form the letters in the mouth(makhrij/makharij) can be slightly off if you don’t have a basic understanding of the Arabic Alphabet.

I know that people have taken these lessons and have sucessfully learnt to recite the quran but what i really really really feel is being lost, is the essence of teaching the quran for free!

Islam is not a religion only for those that can afford it, and is not to be sold and marketed like i think it is being with these tutors. It is not a business where they are making a profit, i am sorry but that really does hurt me, i have lived in pakistan i am aware of prices there but i am 100% certain alot of these prices are set to make  profit. That is wrong.

My mum says to me that in her village, and i think a lot of the villages/areas in Pukhtunkhwa, you went to the mosque or to the house of the quran teacher, and they taught you, they gave you their time, and expected what in return? That you learn, and that you practice and that Allah rewards them.

At the end of each major step in the learning process, e.g. finishing the qaidah, finishing the recitation of the whole Quran, Khatam, the mothers or family of the student would give a gift to the Teacher or give a seasonal or yearly gift as a token of gratitude and respect, the teachers were happy with that, the greater reward was and always is from Allah.

Now with these online tutors, sorry don’t make selling the Quran or the knowledge of it a business, and it is a business when you are profiting financially.

One tutor, Allahamdulliah a Hafiz blessed by Allah with knowledge of the Quran reciation, said to me, we are not selling the Quran we are taking expenses, for our time, our internet costs and electricity costs.

I can appreciate what he is saying except when he said, i will need to discuss any changes in prices with my “partners”, basically there are groups of them teaching from the same computer, same connection – therefore costs should be lower!

Really though, i am waiting for the Ultimate Quran Tutor, the one that says yeah i will teach the quran, and i will do it for free or a minimal fee that really does just cover my costs and only that.

Why are you taking costs for your time? Is not the reward of Allah better then a financial gain that you have sacrificed your time, that is dawah, you are getting sawab for it without realising it!!

There is a  hadith:

Sahi Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 90. Wishes. Hadith 338.
Narrated By Abu Huraira : Allah’s Apostle said, “Not to wish to be the like except of two men. A man whom Allah has given the (knowledge of the) Qur’an and he recites it during the hours of night and day and the one who wishes says: If I were given the same as this (man) has been given, I would do what he does, and a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the just and right way, in which case the one who wishes says, ‘If I were given the same as he has been given, I would do what he does.’”

The above hadth clearly shows the great blessing in reciting the final message to mankind, and the reward for those that taught it, especially those that do it for free has to be substantial!

Everytime someone you have taught, recites you get a copy of that sawab, any good action that comes out of it, you get a copy for free! Is that incentive not enough, i am not saying that you do not have the right to ask for compensation for your time, but who can compensate better then Allah, and can there be such a imaandar person that would say yeah i will teach for free!

Is such a person out there?

Help the People of Pukhtunkhwa (NWFP) Pakistan – For the Sake of Allah Please read and DONATE NOW!!!

Posted in My Blog with tags , , , , , , , , on 13 May, 2009 by Pukhtana

Maybe we were all too young to help out when our brothers and sisters needed help in Afghanistan, ( i certainly was) in this day of modern fast paced communication can we afford to stay quite and immobile whilst we watch OUR PEOPLE, suffer again and again.

There are many ways to help, the basic is to feel sympathy, but instead make a dua and  make a donation or even better actually physically help out and do something active!

Which ever way you do it, just remember, it could be our families in Pukhtukhwa next, who will help them or us out?

I hope all those of us that talk of Pukhtun Unity, and Pashtun Pride, and all those that talk of being Pakistani, and most importantly those that talk of being a united Islamic world, or just basic humanity, i hope you will all come forward now, and prove your worth and stick by your words, do it openly to inspire others, and secretly just to be rewarded by Allah.

I hope you will all at least make some sort of contribution, these are a people in need, and we are all in need of being unified, as Pukhtuns, as Muslims.

To donate now online, via well established Islamic Charities please visit:

http://www.islamic-relief.com/Emergencies-And-Appeals/emergency.aspx?emID=58

or

http://www.muslimhands.org/en/gb/appeals/swat_pakistan/

If anyone is planning on going to Pukhtunkhwa to help out in the camps or any other way can you please let me and the wider online pashtun Community know? Isn’t it possible to organise something ourselves?

We have well established Pukhtuns and Pukhtaneh throughout the west, isn’t finally time we unified for this and used our health and wealth, our youth and intelligence and everything else Allah has blessed us with, for the better of our people, in a time of great need?

I personally think it is going to get worse, as one of the men in an aid camp in Mardan said to the reporter on Al Jazerah, we are doing all that we can, but we hear the  planes flying over head, we can’t even tell if we will be here for long.

We need to put something in place to help out long term. This is how many UK Islamic Charities started out, maybe we should all start living our dreams of ” i wish to one day help my people” and start saying “I am helping my people, for Allah’s sake, who wants to join me?”

I could give various Islamic quotes and references of the benefits of helping out in a time like this, but i don’t think i should need to, it is a basic human instinct, mercy, show it please, for the Sake of Allah.

The Great Game – A play about Afghanistan in a London Theatre

Posted in History & Anthropolgy, Pukhtun Matters, Pukhtunkhwa, Thinking Point with tags , , , , , , , on 10 April, 2009 by Pukhtana

Just seen an article on the BBC News site about a new drama play in a London Theatre called “The Great Game”

The play is about Afghanistan, and even has a scene from when the Durrand line was being formed, as the site says

“A London theatre is hosting a two-month festival aimed at giving audiences a better understanding of the culture and history of a country rising ever higher up the global news agenda – Afghanistan.

The director Nicolas Kent of the Tricycle theatre where the play is performed at said

“Afghanistan is likely to be the most important focus of British, European and American foreign policy for at least the rest of this decade.”

And so he apparently wants to make the audiences think about politics, he has previously made plays about guntanamo and Darfur.

To book tickets or have more information on dates see the Tricycle Theatre site, I inshAllah intend to go.

Where is all the good in the world?

Posted in My Blog, My Writings, My life with tags , , , , , , , , on 26 March, 2009 by Pukhtana

I’m having one of those days when I look around at my life and though there are problems in it, like in most people’s lives, i just seem to be seing all the negative and not much, if any of the good!

I do know, and am very aware of being thankful to Allah no matter what, but thats the problem, when i think of Allah and my deen i just remember even more  that this world is temporary it just makes me see the wrong in this world even more….like i don’t want to be here, not really!

Oh my god, that makes me sound suicidal, which i am most definately not! What i meant is i just want this temporary world to be over, i’m getting impatient like i don’t see the point of this world, especially with all its imperfections and cruelties and injustices.

I feel odd writing this, before when i used to blog i used to just write what i wished not caring what people thought but now so many people ( thank you to them all) write to me and imagine me as this “cool person” and i’m kinda conscious of what i write, as i know it can affect people.

Though to be honest i’m not going to change what i write, it just wouldn’t be me and it just wouldn’t give me the same release from my thoughts.

All i can say is i think i will sleep on it, see how i feel in the morning. Though praying usually helps if anyone is looking for a quick fix.

I had a few requests for some sort of  discussion ( also known as chat) “thing” on this blog….that is not really possible only “thing” i can think of,  is to have this non subject based post and people can just comment and cross comment to each other.

Your messages will need to be approved the first time,  so it will take a bit of time to get up and running or it may never run at all.

DM Digital – Zara / Zerah Khan – I spoke to her!

Posted in Afghanistan, My Blog, My life, Pukhtun Matters, Pukhtunkhwa, Pukhtuns, Sound Off!, TV, Thinking Point, pukthun with tags , , , , , , on 8 February, 2009 by Pukhtana

I had the good fortune, unfortunately  for DM digital – of watching the program “da khyber awaz” more like “de kheru awaz” if u ask me.

I don’t really watch these programs as they make my blood boil when they chat crap, and on this occasion the punjabified ( she looks it as well as acts it and speaks it )- “Zara” Khan, more like Zerah (old) Khan, you know the old fat fake toora khaza agha chi sama diw ( monster) khakri.

Well she decided it wasn’t enough to have her as the only punjabified so called “pukhtana” on the show and decided to invite her family friends daughter who decided to mouth off and talk crap too, though she was pretty for a toora punjabified girl – looks are nothing if you have no “substance”.

Why am i (unusually) speaking in such a harsh manner………..well sometimes people say and act in such a way and it is one’s duty to warn other Pukhtuns, that if you value your Pukhtun wali boycott this show.

This “guest” was talking about how she had a love marriage – to a punjabi  – and funnily enough Mrs Zerah Khan thinks this is ok, as she married her own daughter to a punjabi… i see a theme developing here….anyhow the guest i can’t remember or care for her name, was going on about how British Pukhtuns just can’t marry Pukhtuns from back home because…..British pukhtuns are educated and “free” ( meaning we are very liberal and westernised).
